Spirit Airlines ending seasonal flights to Atlantic City

Spirit Airlines recently announced it will end seasonal flights serving Atlantic City International Airport from various U.S. cities from November this year. The leading low-cost carrier said that some of the routes connecting Atlantic City, such as Detroit, Chicago and Boston, have already ceased operations.

The seasonal flights to Atlantic City International Airport, which is presently among the fastest-growing regional airports in the United States, were meant to cash in on the peak summer tourist season. The seasonal service to the city will end from November 1, 2014.

According to the airline, the seasonal flights to Atlanta from Atlantic City will also stop operating from November 1, 2014. The four cities serve Atlantic City during the summer and spring season to benefit from the peak tourist season.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is currently managing the Atlantic City International Airport, has said that negotiations are already on with Spirit Airlines and other airlines for transforming the seasonal routes to a year-round service. If this is done, then the convention industry stands to benefit the most.

The seasonal flights to Atlantic City from Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago and Boston operated by Spirit Airlines spurred the growth and finally culminated into profitable summer operations. The final figures though are yet to be revealed.
 
Apart from seasonal service, Spirit Airlines also reported a significant success in the Atlantic City market by ferrying local tourists to Florida vacation hot-spots round the year. Another prominent U.S. carrier United Airlines also gained entry in the Atlantic City market in April this year with the launch of nonstop flights services from its Houston and Chicago hubs.
