Leading ultra-low cost carrier Spirit Airlines is aiming to expand its services further to other domestic destinations in the United States. The airline recently announced it will be expanding its network to New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The destinations to be served from Newark Liberty include Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The airline will be offering connecting service to above 30 destinations, including more than 20 to/from Latin America and the Caribbean. The daily nonstop service to the two destinations from Newark Liberty will begin operations effective from October 30, 2016.
Spirit Airlines is also planning to launch flights to Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) from Newark Liberty next year starting March 9, 2017. The new service from Newark Liberty would be complementing the airline’s current ly operated service in the New York/New Jersey area, where the airline is already conducting 11 daily flights services each from Atlantic City International Airport (ACY), and New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines' Vice President of Network Planning, said, “The company is delighted to expand its highly affordable flights services in the greater New York/New Jersey area through Newark Liberty International Airport. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as well as Federal Aviation Administration should be effusively thanked for facilitating competitive and seamless connectivity to Newark Liberty. With increasing flights now coupled with low fares from more airlines, the customers stand to greatly benefit in Newark, which is currently one of the expensive markets in the United States.”
Kopczak said that Spirit Airlines has been for quite long been consistently cheap airfares to all the destinations it has been flying. The fares being offered by the airline is much lower than its other rivals on average, which it claims to be 40 percent less. Apart from the seats, the customers are offered options to pay only for those amenities or services required such as refreshments, seat assignments and bags. Spirit Airlines currently conducts over 425 daily flights services to more than 56 destinations in the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America.
