Spirit Airlines hikes baggage fee on this New Year

Spirit Airlines welcomed the New Year with a surprise announcement for its passengers. The Miramar, Florida based airline announced its decision to increase the baggage fee. The airline is set to gift all its passengers the hike on luggage by at least $1.

The airline, which offers Cheap Airfare to passengers, is however, known for its no-frills strategy. Though it offers low fares to travel to various destinations across the United States, the airline is strict about its other policies including baggage fees and selling products onboard at a price. It has however, defied criticism over the years and grown in size and network. Despite a negative feedback from its passengers and critics, it has not stopped itself from expanding its presence in the country. Often, it is compared with the Irish airline Ryan Air that too follows a similar strategy and charges customers even for printing the boarding passes.

As per the reports, carry-on bags will now cost $26 and the customers would have to pay the fees at the time of the booking itself. Paying the baggage fees online can cost the passengers almost $45. Checked-in baggage fees have also been revised. Passengers will now have to shell out $21 and $31 for their first and second checked bags. The news has not gone down well with the passengers who seem to be disappointed with the airline’s decision to raise the fee at the beginning of the New Year.
