Spirit Airlines to resume seasonal flights to Boston in spring

Leading low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines recently announced it will resume its seasonal flights to Boston, Detroit, Chicago and Atlanta from Atlantic City International Airport. The loss of United Airlines flights out of Atlantic City last year had made the airport officials jittery as they continued to grapple to attract various carriers to serve here.

Spirit Airlines in a statement said that it is happy to offer cheap airfares to its customers traveling between Boston and Atlantic City, where the seasonal service will become operational effective from March 12, 2015.

The airline also indicted that seasonal nonstop flights to Detroit, Chicago and Atlanta will be resumed from April 16. According to the airline, the flights to Boston, Detroit and Chicago will run through September 9, while flights to Atlanta will continue through November 11.

Spirit Airlines conducts seasonal nonstop flights from Atlantic City on these routes during spring every year in order to capitalize on peak summer tourist season in Atlantic City. The resuming of seasonal service plays a crucial role in bringing more tourists to Atlantic City and also provides South Jersey travelers easy access to four major U.S. cities with direct flights.

Paul Berry, Spokesman of Spirit Airlines, said, “The airline is presently not considering expanding the routes and transforming them into year-round service. These routes are meeting the airline’s expectations now.”

Discount carrier Spirit Airlines is the only commercial carrier offering services out of Atlantic City. Air Canada is also planning to begin seasonal flights between Atlantic City and Toronto this summer, after approval by the city authorities.
