Star Alliance opening new super-lounge at Los Angeles Sept 23

Star Alliance is all set to open its new lounge towards the end of September this year. The new lounge will be opened at Los Angeles’ Tom Bradley International Terminal on September 23, 2013.

Air New Zealand will be managing this sprawling ‘super-lounge’. The lounge will be open to all Star Alliance members traveling in cheap business class flights or holding Star Alliance Gold status. For the well-heeled travelers there will be a separate first class lounge as well.

Mark Schwab, CEO of Star Alliance, said that Los Angeles would be the latest in a series of Star-branded lounges in those locations around the world where Star Alliance either don’t have a strong home carrier or a particular airport from where a large number of Star Alliance carriers operate.

He said that this allows Star Alliance to incur a lower operating cost across the airlines. Such a lounge also ensures longer opening hours and facilities like showers, which a single airline is unable to offer.

Star Alliance is currently operating branded lounges at London Heathrow and Buenos Aires, and is planning to open more in Asia and Brazil.
