Sun Country Airlines to Serve RSW-SJU Nonstop in Summer 2015

Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) will bring the Floridians closer to the Caribbean. Sun Country Airlines announced earlier this week that it will offer the first nonstop seasonal service on Fort Myers-San Juan route.

The new route between RSW and San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) will commence from May 3 through August 23, 2015. The airline will also offer additional flights on Thursdays starting from June 11 through August 20, 2015. The airline anticipates new business and tourism opportunities for Puerto Rico as well as Fort Myers. If this seasonal service is successful, the airline could also offer year-round flights to the Caribbean city.

Leonardo Garcia, Hispanic American Business Alliance, CEO/President was pleased with the new seasonal flights and said that this route will bring numerous trade opportunities for the two cities. Puerto Rico will open numerous opportunities of trade in the Caribbean and Latin America. This route will reinforce further connections since SJU has good connections in Panama City, Panama; Bogota, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and St. Kitts, St.Thomas and St. Croix islands in the Caribbean.

The Hispanic Population is growing tremendously in Southwest Florida. With this flight, the passengers would not have to drive to Fort Lauderdale or Miami to go to San Juan. Based on U.S. census data, Hodges University published a report stating that more than 7,000 Puerto Ricans dwell in Collier County, 27,000 people live in Lee County representing 8.31% of the total population in Collier and 22% in Lee County respectively. More than 200,000 Hispanics resides in both the counties.

The airline will deploy Boeing 737-700 jets on these flights. The aircraft will have 129 passengers.
