Swiss now opens solo business class Throne seat for reservation

Swiss International Air Lines or Swiss is now offering opportunity to premium customers to book one of its popular solo business class seats installed on Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A330 aircrafts. The airline called them “Throne” seats, and was until now offering free of charge. The airline has now introduced a fee for these special seats, and opened for pre-reservation.
 
A spokesperson of Swiss said that the airline, which is a member of Lufthansa group, would be charging a hefty fee from all those who desire to pre-reserve a throne seat. This will however be done starting end of March 2017. The airline’s high tier loyalty club members will be though exempted from pre-booking.
 
The Throne seats have been installed on the airline’s Airbus A330 and Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts, to be operated on long-haul international routes. All of the aircrafts forming a part of A330 and B777-300ER fleet have been designed with a staggered business class configuration.
 
According to the airline, the Throne seats are renowned for their privacy and are most sought after by informed solo business class customers. The airline however said that every flight offers only few Throne seats. The airline’s loyalty club members bearing Senator and HON Circle status are the first ones to be given preference to these select Throne seats.
 
The ordinary business class customers are so far getting access to the Throne seats on a complimentary basis. Though the claim to a Throne seat can be made when departure date is quite close, but the fact also being that by the time claim is made the seats might have already been booked. Now that Swiss has decided to charge a fee for a Throne seat, the pre-reservation will be open for all business class customers, and not necessarily only loyalty club members with access to HON Circle and Senator status.
