Swiss tweaks business class ‘throne’ on its new Boeing 777-300ER

Swiss International Air Lines or Swiss is renowned for offering a handful of business class seats on its international flights which are sold out much ahead than the rest in the business class cabin. The exclusive business class seat has come to be known as ‘throne’ and is being offered on the airline’s new Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts likely to be introduced in January  2016.

The single business class seat, nicknamed ‘throne’, is most sought-after by frequent flyers. The seat is flanked by a pair of imposing side tables and is ideal for the solo traveller. Apart from being introduced on the new Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts, a handful of ‘thrones’ are also available among the 45-odd business class seats on the airline’s Airbus A330 and Airbus A340 aircrafts. The seats on the left side alternate between single seats and pairs, while those on the right side are singles only, either at the aisle or directly next to the window.

The tweaked ‘thrones’ on the new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will offer additional storage space on the window-side console. Those booking business class tickets for travelling on the ‘thrones’ will be able to store their stuff with more space available now.

The wide-bodied Boeing 777-300ER would allow Swiss to increase the number of thrones in business class cabin with 12 of the prized seats available to the premium customers. The thrones will be available both on the left and right sides of the cabin. The solo business class seats are typically blocked by the airline for its top-tier Senator and HON Circle frequent flyers in its Miles & More loyalty program. However, the seats that remain unoccupied are placed in the ‘open to everybody’ pool for online seat selection 24 hours prior to the departure of the flight.
