TAM Airlines becomes first in the Americas to receive A350 XWB

Brazil’s flagship carrier TAM Airlines became the first in the Americas to receive its next-generation Airbus A350 XWB aircraft. It also became the world’s fourth airline to operate this energy-efficient aircraft.

TAM Airlines will launch its international flights to Miami from Sao Paulo using its newly purchased Airbus A350 XWB aircraft in March 2016. The airline will also be launching new flights to Madrid from Sao Paulo in April next year. The airline has also indicated that it will introduce flights between Orlando and Sao Paulo during the second half of 2016.

The airline will be taking the delivery if six additional Airbus A350 XWB aircrafts in 2016. A total of 27 A350 XWBs have been ordered by the airline, which are scheduled for delivery through 2021. These aircrafts will be purchased at an investment of $7 billion.

The airline’s new Airbus A350 XWB aircraft is configured in two classes – Economy Class and Premium Business Class – with a capacity of 348 seats. The customers booking business class tickets will be offered a total of 30 full-flat seats in its Premium Business Class cabin. The Economy Class is configured with a capacity to seat 318 passengers.

TAM Airlines is scheduled to take the delivery of its fourth Airbus A350 XWB aircraft in June 2016, which will be configured with three classes. The airline will be introducing new Economy Plus cabin with more legroom between the seats. The aircraft will accommodate 30 passengers in Premium Business Class, 63 seats in Economy Plus and 246 seats in Economy Class.
