TAM Airlines joining oneworld from March 31

LATAM Airlines Group, operator of TAM Airlines, has announced that the airline would be joining the global airline alliance oneworld effective from March 31, 2014. TAM Airlines is the leading carrier in Brazil and caters to air travel demand in Latin America’s largest market. Media reports said that another Latin American carrier LAN Colombia, which is also being operated by LATAM Airlines Group, would also be joining oneworld on the same day.

The company confirmed the news of both the carriers joining oneworld to mediapersons recently. With the joining of oneworld, both the carriers would be offering plane tickets to their respective customers at competitive rates. A host of other services and benefits would also be offered to the customers by the two airlines after they become part of oneworld.

LATAM Airlines Group operates several carriers including LAN Airlines, TAM Airlines, LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador, LAN Peru and LAN Colombia. The company said that LAN Airlines is already a full member of oneworld since 2000. The company’s other passenger airline affiliates also subsequently joined oneworld as affiliate members. These airlines include LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador and LAN Peru.

Until now, TAM Airlines has been a member of Star Alliance. The airline will operate its last flight under Star Alliance on March 30, 2014. TAM Airlines first flight under oneworld would begin operations from March 31, 2014.
