TAM Airlines to become Americas first carrier to operate A350 XWB

TAM Airlines is all set to become the first carrier in the Americas to operate Airbus A350 XWB aircraft. The airline has revealed its first domestic and international routes to be served with the new widebody aircraft, which it will receive soon.

The airline, which is also a member of Oneworld, said that it hopes to receive its first Airbus A350-900 aircraft in Brazil in December this year. The first flight is scheduled to be made in January 2016 by the new aircraft.

A spokesperson of TAM Airlines said that it will use the new aircraft to operate its first flight on the domestic route between Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes–Manaus International Airport (MAO) and São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (GRU).

The airline will start operating its first international route from March 2016. Media reports said that TAM Airlines will operate its long-haul international flights to Miami from Sao Paulo in March next year. A month later, the airline plans to introduce flights services to Madrid Barajas from São Paulo Guarulhos.

TAM Airlines will become the first airline in the Americas and fourth in the world to receive and operate Airbus A350 XWB aircraft. The other airlines operating similar aircraft include Qatar Airways, Vietnam Airlines and Finnair.

The airline had earlier placed order for 27 Airbus A350-900 aircrafts. The deliveries of these aircrafts are however expected from late 2015 to 2019. The airline will also exercise purchase options to buy another five Airbus A350-900 aircrafts, whenever required. TAM Airlines hopes to modernize its existing fleet and boost revenue by operating the widebody Airbus A350 XWB aircrafts.
