The Fort Lauderdale Air and Sea Show Kicks Off

Each year, Fort Lauderdale hosts the Air and Sea Show as part of the United States Navy’s Fleet Week celebration. Families and tourists from all over the country head to Fort Lauderdale on cheap tickets to see the show, visit the booths and of course enjoy the food. This annual celebration of the nation’s military service is a dramatic event that draws in visitors to Fort Lauderdale. Take advantage of airline tickets and discount rates and see the show for yourself this year.

The event kicks off April 28th and 29th of 2012. Thursday before show, the festivities start with fireworks and concerts as the sun goes down. This is to welcome and invite sailors and military service members from all over the country that arrive on flights to Fort Lauderdale for the event. Fireworks are hosted at Seminole’s Hard Rock Café and Casino.

Make sure to book cheap flights for Friday, because the Take Off Party will be well underway. This free event is open to the public and is located on the Las Olas riverfront. Here you will see more fireworks and all of the ships that will be part of the Air and Sea Show for the weekend. The ships cannot be toured that Friday though.

Once Saturday rolls around, the event finally kicks off. Witness performances by famous recording artists or watch the Blue Angels perform death-defying stunts in their jets overhead. The Blue Angels are not the only planes in the show, however. You will also see the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and the Canadian Forces Snowbirds all perform alongside the Blue Angels. When booking your flights to Fort Lauderdale, make sure to arrive in time to get seats for the event or even book private seating online while purchasing airline tickets.

The U.S. Military ships will be on display starting Saturday. Some will be open for tours, but get there early because the lines are expected to grow by afternoon. Some of the ships you will find on display are:

  • USS Oscar Austin Guided Missile Destroyer
  • USS Shreveport Amphibious Transport Dock
  • USS San Antonio Amphibious Transport Dock
  • US CGC Elm Coast Guard Cutter
  • USS Boone Guided Missile Frigate
