Turkish Airlines launching flights to San Francisco from April 13

Turkey’s national carrier Turkish Airlines will be increasing its frequencies in the United States with the addition of a new destination in April this year.

The airline in a statement said that it will be launching its new flights to San Francisco starting from April 13, 2015. This will be the airline’s 11th destination in the United States.

The flights will be operated from Turkey’s capital city Istanbul. The airline will operate flights between the two cities five times per week. The airline is also offering cheap airfares to San Francisco starting at $540 roundtrip.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee has welcomed Turkish Airlines’ decision to introduce nonstop flights services between Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) from next spring.

The five-time weekly service to be operated from April 13 will later on be converted to a daily service effective from May 11, 2015. The airline said that it will be deploying a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to operate flights on San Francisco-Istanbul route. The aircraft will have a capacity to carry a total of 337 passengers, and will be configured in two classes – 28 seats in business class and 309 seats in economy class.

With flights being operated to more than 200 international destinations, Turkish Airlines is presently the world’s fourth-largest carrier in terms of the destinations served. Turkish Airlines has also been named as the “Best Airline in Europe” by Skytrax in 2014 for the fourth consecutive year.

San Francisco International Airport is currently the largest airport in the Bay Area and connects 76 U.S. cities with nonstop flights by 15 domestic carriers. The airport also handles nonstop flights by 29 international carriers to more than 35 destinations worldwide.
