Recently, on October 29, 2018, Hong Kong and Turkish Airlines have signed a new codeshare partnership agreement. As per the agreement, Hong Kong Airline will include Istanbul and other prime hotspots namely London, Paris, Barcelona and many more into its international network whereas Turkish Airlines has stated that along with Hong Kong, the carrier would also increase its journey to other significant destinations.
As a part of important approvals, Hong Kong airline is inclined to put a code ‘HX’ on services provided by Turkish airlines between Istanbul and Hong Kong and between London and Barcelona as well as Istanbul and Paris. On the other hand, Turkish airline will place ‘TK’ code on its counterpart on flights flying on routes between Auckland and Hong Kong, Osaka and Bangkok. Tickets for these codeshare services are not yet available. The date of sale is said to be declared very soon. The association between the two airline is still subject to approval of the government.
Bilal Eksi, deputy chairman and chief executive of the board stated, ‘the codeshare agreement between the two respective airlines develop strong commercial relations between the two but would also contribute to expanding connections to several major destinations, alongside Hong Kong.’
Wang Liya, the vice chairman and president of Hong Kong Airlines welcomed the association between Hong Kong and Turkish airlines. He said, ‘the codeshare partnership would prove to be an option that would open up amazing travel destinations for the passengers of Hong Kong Airlines.’
At present, Turkish Airlines has aligned six flights to fly between Hong Kong and Istanbul per week Boeing 777-300ER would be used to operate the service.
