United Airlines and Avianca enter into codeshare agreement

United Airlines recently announced it has entered into codeshare agreement with Avianca.

The codeshare agreement will allow passengers to buy air tickets on both the carriers through a unified process.

Passengers booking Avianca or United Airlines flights will be able to make their travel through one ticket purchase. Among other facilities under the codeshare agreement, include a single check-in, baggage checked all the way through to the final destination, and reciprocal accrual and redemption on either carrier’s frequent flyer programs. 

For Avianca, the codeshare cities during the first phase of implementation include Denver, New York/Newark, Chicago, Boston, Houston, New Orleans, Cleveland, Raleigh-Durham, Phoenix, Seattle, San Antonio and Tampa. For United Airlines, the codeshare cities include Bogota, Cali, Barranquilla, Medellin, Cartagena and Pereira in Colombia.

The codeshare agreement between the two carriers is aimed at offering customers more and improved flight options. Both the carriers will also be able to place each other’s code and operate commercialized flights.

Apart from the codeshare agreement, United Airlines and Avianca also signed a frequent flyer agreement, which will enable reciprocal accrual and redemption benefits on the passengers' loyalty program of choice.
