United Airlines recently launched its nonstop flights services between San Francisco and Hangzhou. The flights between the two destinations will be operated thrice weekly. San Francisco, headquarters of Silicon Valley, is a city located in the U.S. West Coast, while Hangzhou is a city in southeast China.
Hangzhou will now become the fifth city in mainland China to be served by United Airlines. Other Chinese cities where the airline is offering its services include Xi’an, Chengdu, Shanghai and Beijing. With the launch of flights to Hangzhou, U.S. travelers will now be able to visit this city, renowned for its rich history and cultural heritage. The city, also called the Silicon Valley of China because of the headquarters of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, would provide convenient access to business travelers from the U.S. as well.
Marcel Fuchs, United Airlines’ Vice-President of Atlantic and Pacific Sales, said, “It is a matter of great delight that the Silicon Valley of U.S. and Silicon Valley of China are being connected with the launch of nonstop flights between Hangzhou and San Francisco. The new service is expected to generate a strong passenger demand, particularly business travelers from both countries. The headquarters of many e-commerce companies are located in both Hangzhou and San Francisco. The launch of new flights would make it convenient for attending high-tech conferences.”
Fuchs further said that the launch of new flights on the San Francisco-Hangzhou route is timely and prove to be successful. The year 2016 has been declared as the China-U.S. Tourism Year. Moreover, Hangzhou has also been selected as the venue for organizing the G20 summit being held in September this year. This, therefore, is the suitable time for launching the new service.
Several Chinese destinations are being served by United Airlines for past 30 years now. Hangzhou has now become the airline’s 14th Asia-Pacific destination to be served from the airline’s main San Francisco hub.
