United Airlines suspends PIT-SFO nonstop flights temporarily

United Airlines will temporarily lay off the daily nonstop flight from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to San Francisco (SFO) between January 7 and March 5. The locals will not be able to access a direct flight to the tourist destination in Northern California.

The airline spokeswoman, Mary Clark said that the flight demands during those months are comparatively lower due to which the nonstop service will be suspended. She also stated that the customers will be able to board connecting flights between PIT and SFO from the airline’s hubs.

JoAnn Jenny who is the spokeswoman for Pittsburgh International Airport explained that the hiatus is a seasonal adjustment considering the low demand.

She also added that the airport is working towards getting the nonstop flight back after March. The suspension does not have any negative impact since there are several connecting flights to SFO from PIT routed through Chicago and Denver hubs.

The airport is also working with the airline to ensure the availability of the nonstop flights from March through December. The airline has not indicated any plans to suspend the nonstop route during the rest of the year, when the bookings are extremely positive.

The airline is the only on offering direct flight to San Francisco which is now temporarily suspended. The carrier currently offers nonstop flights from Pittsburgh to Denver, Chicago O'Hare, Houston Bush Intercontinental, Washington Dulles and Newark Liberty. There is no nonstop flight available to San Diego or Seattle from Pittsburgh. The Los Angeles daily nonstop flight has also been eliminated since August and presently American Airlines offers five nonstop flights in a week to the city.
