United Airlines to offer free meals and alcohol in economy class

United Airlines recently announced that it will soon start offering free meals and alcohols to its customers traveling in economy class on some select international flights. The airline said that the customers will be offered three course meals effective from June 1, 2015.

According to the airline, the three course meals to be offered in economy class cabins will include a snack, a main course, a drink and a dessert. The airline will also be serving free beer and wine on board the flights. The airline has been charging $6 to $8 for beer and $8 for red and white wine.

Karen May, Spokesperson of United Airlines, said, “The airline has decided to offer free meals and alcoholic beverages to its customers traveling in economy class to international destinations as part of the overall investment in various areas to significantly enhance customers’ experience. The objective is also to see how the customers reacted to the new changes.”

Travel experts in the United States have reacted on the move by United Airlines. They said that the competition has significantly increased over the years and nearly all the airlines that are currently in the business or want to remain competitive continue to invest to better their customer experience and attract customers in a big way. And, this is exactly what the United Airlines has done to remain in competition and lure customers. The new move of the airline is also being viewed as a good promo as well.

United Airlines has indicated that the recent upgrades will be effective on flights to European destinations, transpacific routes and also on multiple flights to South America.
