United Airlines to resume Belfast-EWR year-round flights in 2016

United Airlines recently announced it is all set to resume its year-round flights to New York from Belfast starting from early 2016. The airline in a statement said that it will start operating its flights services between Belfast International Airport (BFS) and New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) effective from January 7 next year.

The airline in a statement said that the additional flights between the two destinations would be operated thrice weekly until March 10, 2016. The flights on Belfast-Newark Liberty route was previously being operated as a year-round service, but was reduced to seasonal service in 2015.

Providing flight schedule about the restored service, the airline said that the flight would depart from Belfast on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11:10 hour and arrive in Newark Liberty at 14:00 hour. The return flight would depart from Newark Liberty at 21:45 hour and reach Belfast at 09:10 hour the following day.

According to United Airlines, the flight services between Newark Liberty International Airport and Belfast International Airport is the only direct connection between the United States and Northern Ireland. The service however didn’t operate between January 6 and March 11 in 2015. The airline has now decided to operate thrice weekly service between the two airports during the same period in 2016.

Graham Keddie, Managing Director of Belfast International Airport, said, “United Airlines’ decision to restore the year-round service would prove to be a boon and of great significance to the economy of Northern Ireland. This is the only one and direct, scheduled transatlantic service to Newark Liberty. The direct link will also be considered to be a ‘lifeline’ for US-owned companies doing business in Northern Ireland.”
