United Airlines is all set to reward its premium fliers starting from January 1, 2016. The airline has boosted a key benefit for elite customers purchasing first class or business class tickets, which will now be the priciest ever to be introduced by the leading U.S. carrier.
Media reports said that United Airlines will reward its first class and business class customers with double “premier qualifying miles”, which is accumulated by the elite customers for achieving different levels of premier status with the airline. The move is aimed at retaining the full-fare premium fliers in the company’s fold and attracting more customers to buy higher-priced tickets. The airline has brought the new changes to match similar upgrades by its rivals such as American Airlines.
United Airlines has made several changes to its premier qualifying miles program. While providing details about the changes, the airline in a statement said that those customers buying full-fare first class or business class tickets would be awarded a 300 percent bonus toward their premier qualifying miles, which has doubled from 150 percent in 2015. According to the plan, if a passenger is booking a full-fare ticket in either of the two classes for a 1,000-mile flight then the premier miles will be automatically doubled to 3,000 in return, which has increased from 1,500 miles.
The airline further stated that the customers who have become premier fliers would be eligible for a wide range of facilities, from availing free checked bags benefit to accumulating more miles for exchanging them later on for flights. In the Premier Silver category, which is the lowest level, a passenger is required to accumulate at least 25,000 premier miles. However, the customers booking discounted first class or business class tickets would be awarded a 200 percent bonus toward their premier qualifying miles, which has now increased from 150 percent.
