United Airlines upgrades food options for premium fliers

Premium customers booking North American flights would be happier than before. Chicago-based United Airlines has decided to upgrade the food options, particularly for those traveling in first class or booking business class flights on various North American routes. The upgrade is aimed at weaning away high-spending customers from the airline’s competitors.

The changes have already been implemented effective from February 1, 2015. The upgrades are perceptible and these can be seen with varied, delicious desserts, entrees and other meals being offered on board the flights. The airline said that upgraded menus are being offered to all those traveling in first class and business class involving 800 miles or more flight distance. The airline has until now been providing an in-flight meal to only those customers traveling 900 miles.
 
Karen May, a spokeswoman for United Airlines, said, “The customers will now be offered varied choices such as sausage jambalaya and chicken, and chicken tandoori with basmati rice and pot pies during meal times instead of the hot sandwiches.”

Karen further said that it the flight however falls during breakfast time, the customers can opt for a skillet-style egg scramble inspired by the airline’s hubs such as Houston, Denver or Chicago.

United Airlines is also upgrading menus on shorter flights as well. The airline said that premium customers traveling in first class and business class can already see these changes. The morning meal options will now have breakfast breads too, while on afternoon and evening flights there will be a rotation of 25 new snacks. Those traveling on transcontinental flights can look forward to fresh cookies baked on board and heartier dinner options.
