US Airways begins seasonal flights to new European destinations

With summer season setting in, various U.S. carriers have started seasonal flights services now. US Airways recently started operating flights to four new European destinations. The airline launched flights to Barcelona from Charlotte on May 22, 2014. With a distance of 7,014 km, this will be longest sector on which the airline will be operating its seasonal service. The flights will be conducted on a daily basis and continue operations until September 27, 2014.

US Airways also introduced flights to Edinburgh from Philadelphia on May 23, 2014. The distance between the two destinations is 5,390 km and will be the airline’s shortest seasonal route. The flights on Philadelphia-Edinburgh route will be offered six times every week and will operate till September 30 this year.

Flights on new route to Manchester were also launched by the airline. Manchester Airports Group’s COO Andrew Cowan while commenting on the new Manchester-Charlotte route said that this was indeed great news both for Manchester Airport as well as the entire region. Cowan said that the launch of direct long haul flights to North America shows the success of the airport’s ‘Fly Manchester’ campaign.

The airline, which is a member of leading global airline alliance Oneworld, said that it will not be facing any kind of competition on the four new European routes launched in May this year.

Another leading U.S. carrier United Airlines also launched its seasonal service from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The airline launched its new seasonal flights to Edinburgh from Chicago O’Hare starting from May 22, 2014. The flights between the two destinations will be conducted five times every week until October 5, 2014. The flights on this route will be operated with the help of a 169-seater Boeing 757-200 aircraft.

A spokesperson of United Airlines said that this will be the airline’s second route to Edinburgh from the U.S. The airline is already operating flights to Edinburgh from New York’s Newark International Airport. The airline said that it will be increasing frequency on Chicago-Edinburgh route from June 13, 2014 making it into a daily service.

U.S. independent regional carrier Cape Air also launched its new domestic seasonal flights between Block Island and Providence. The airline will be operating 22 flights every week between the two destinations. The flights were launched on May 22, 2014 and will be operated until October 19 this year. The airline will be operating the seasonal service with the help of a 9-seater Britten-Norman Islanders. This route is currently not being operated by any other airline.
