US Airways into joint transatlantic business with IAG

International Airlines Group or IAG, owner of British Airways and Iberia, has got a new business partner in US Airways. Media reports recently said that transatlantic travelers can now look forward to cheap airfares and multiple travel options as US Airways has now joined IAG in its transatlantic business.

US Airways has now merged with American Airlines. With US Airways now collaborating with IAG in taking forward its transatlantic business, the customers traveling on British Airways and Iberia flights will now get varied options with a choice of 70 direct flights every day for travel between the United Kingdom and United States. The will also be offered up to 16 daily flights for traveling between North America and Spain.

Media reports said that the Atlantic joint business will now comprise of all flights being operated by Finnair, Iberia, British Airways, and oneworld partner airlines US Airways and American Airlines. The fares offered on these flights would be valid for travel between Europe and North America. The reports also said that this is essentially a revenue sharing agreement, which will allow member airlines coordinate pricing as well as schedules on North Atlantic routes.

By entering into the joint business US Airways will now bring its 28 transatlantic routes within the network. Among these 28 routes, 27 are new, and will provide access to Iberia and British Airways’ customers to more than 50 new destinations across North America. These destinations include London, Charlotte, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Madrid, Philadelphia and Barcelona.

The passengers from over 240 North American destinations would be able to gain access of US Airways and American airlines’ nine hubs at Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Charlotte, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Miami and New York JFK to travel across the Atlantic to Europe through any one of five carriers. Presently, New York and London are connected with 17 daily roundtrip flights under this joint business.
