US Airways, other carriers equipped with faster in-flight Wi-Fi

Passengers booking air tickets on US Airways are now enjoying faster in-flight Wi-Fi services onboard their flights.

Apart from US Airways, Itasca-based Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi services are also available on other carriers as well, including Virgin America, AirTran Airways, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines.

In-flight Wi-Fi provider Gogo, which introduced the new technology on several international airlines, said that the air travelers would now be able to enjoy faster in-flight Wi-Fi services.

According to the company, the connection speed is now tripled. This is in keeping with the bandwidth demands of the passengers, all of whom want to be connected at even 30,000 feet.

Providing details about its services, the company disclosed that its system uses air-to-ground technology with the help of above 150 land-based cellular towers in the United States that are used to beam signals to the equipment on the aircrafts.

Michael Small, Chief Executive of Gogo, said that above 25 aircrafts being currently operated by US Airways, Delta Air Lines and Virgin America are making use of the new technology. The company is also planning to upgrade hundreds of additional aircrafts with this new technology by the end of 2013.
