US Airways sign codeshare agreement with Airberlin

US Airways recently signed a codeshare agreement with Airberlin, which will further strengthen the business relationship between the two carriers. US Airways has post merger now become a part of American Airlines Group, currently the largest airline operator in the United States. Airberlin, which is based in Berlin, is the second largest carrier in Germany. Both the carriers are members of leading global airline alliance oneworld.

The airline’s codeshare pact with Airberlin will provide customers greater and easier access for travel to key destinations across Germany and beyond. With this new agreement, US Airways will now be able to place its code on Airberlin-operated flights to Berlin and Dusseldorf. Travelers from U.S. cities such as New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Florida, Fort Myers and Chicago will be able to travel on a single ticket on Airberlin flights as well. This will also provide the customers access to 16 European destinations including Vienna, Munich, Hamburg and Copenhagen.

The codeshare agreement will similarly allow Airberlin to put its code on US Airways-operated flights to Philadelphia, Charlotte, Phoenix, New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Chicago. The codeshare flights will be available from Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich.

The new arrangement will allow members of Airberlin topbonus and US Airways Dividend Miles frequent flyer programs to earn and redeem miles on flights operated by either airlines.

US Airways has indicated that it is planning to implement codeshare pacts with other select members of oneworld in the future. The airline became an affiliate member of oneworld on March 31 and continues to be so until it completely integrates with American Airlines after its merger.

Kurt Stache, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President -- Alliances and Partnerships, said that the airline had a longstanding relationship with Airberlin and with this strategic partnership the customers of the two airlines are going to benefit immensely using each other’s robust network.
