Virgin America and Alaska Airlines have announced their plans to relocate to Terminal 7 at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The relocation of the two airlines would be completed by October 2017. Currently, Virgin America is operating out of JFK’s Terminal 4, while Alaska Airlines is conducting its operations out of the airport’s Terminal 8. It may be known that Virgin America has been acquired by Alaska Airlines. Now that the two airlines would be part of one company, the relocation of both the airlines would therefore be at Terminal 7 for smooth operations.
Media reports said that Virgin America and Alaska Airlines are together operating 14 daily flights to New York JFK from major U.S. West Coast airports, which includes San Francisco, Los Angeles, Oregon, Portland and Seattle. Moreover, Virgin America and Alaska Airlines are together conducting 28 nonstop flights to New York City area airports, including Newark Liberty, from 10 destinations. Both the airlines are presently co-located in Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A.
Virgin America along with Alaska Airlines as well as the regional partners are conducting flights services to 118 destinations and transporting 40 million customers annually. An average of 1,200 flights is being operated daily throughout the United States, and also to Cuba, Costa Rica, Canada and Mexico. The global partners of Virgin America and Alaska Airlines include Icelandair, Qantas Airways and British Airways. These three carriers are already operating out of New York JFK’s Terminal 7, and would be joined by Virgin America and Alaska Airlines.
Andrew Harrison, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Alaska Airlines, said, “The prime focus is currently on integrating of the operations of Virgin America and Alaska Airlines at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport for enabling future growth while continuing to offer excellent services and low fares to the customers. We consider New York JFK as a key airport from where efficient connectivity is offered by our global partners for traveling to European destinations and beyond.”
