Virgin America wants codeshare pact with Virgin Australia, seeking DOT approval

Virgin America is eying codeshare pact with Virgin Australia and is trying to seek the approval of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

The airline recently said in a statement that if the DOT gives its approval then Virgin Australia code will be placed on Virgin America-operated flights between Los Angeles and other U.S. cities, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Washington D.C., Boston, Portland, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle and Fort Lauderdale. This will also be the first ever codeshare pact for California-based Virgin America.

Once the codeshare agreement is approved by the DOT, customers will be able to book air tickets only single time and travel seamlessly on either of the carriers. The agreement will also enable easy and smooth connections for people boarding flights from Australia to several destinations in the United States.

Virgin America has recently adopted new reservations system, which has facilitated the airline to think over its first codeshare pact with any carrier. The airline is also trying to aggressively expand its interline partnerships with other carriers in recent times.
   
Currently, Virgin America operates flights to several U.S. destinations, including San Francisco, Washington D.C., San Diego, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, New York and many others.
