Virgin Atlantic Airways resumes flights to New York for the first time since Hurricane Sandy

Virgin Atlantic Airways announced the resumption of its flights services to New York on October 31 for the first time since Hurricane Sandy battered America’s East Coast.

The airline in a statement said that nearly all its planned flights have resumed operations. Apart from this, an extra ‘special recovery flight’ has also been pressed into service to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The airline stated that the additional flight was operated specially for those who were desperate to reach the city on an urgent basis. The additional flight was also operated to help holidaymakers bring back to the UK.

Media reports said that both New York airports – JFK and Newark – have been partially opened. However, another airport LaGuardia would remain closed.
 
According to reports, nearly 18,300 flights had been cancelled throughout the East Coast in just three days ever since Hurricane Sandy hit most parts of the United States on October 29. This was said to be the biggest storm in the U.S. history.
