Virgin Atlantic, Cyprus Airways sign codeshare agreement

Virgin Atlantic recently announced that it has entered into a codeshare agreement with Cyprus Airways, which will enable both the airlines to cooperate with each other in serving on routes between the UK, the US and Cyprus.

Cyprus Airways, with this new agreement, will be able to put its code on Virgin Atlantic flights operating between London Heathrow and Boston, Los Angeles, New York JFK and Newark. The Virgin Atlantic, on the other hand, will be able to codeshare on Cyprus Airways services between Larnaca and London Heathrow.

The codeshare agreement is likely to be effective from July 25, 2011, after obtaining the relevant government approvals.

George Mavrocostas, Executive Chairman of Cyprus Airways, said, “We are confident that the Cyprus traveling public will actively welcome this partnership, as it will be opening up the North Atlantic market on Cyprus’ flag carrier code in cooperation with

Virgin Atlantic’s Director of Commercial & Revenue Planning Edmond Rose said, “It is a pleasure to be working closely with Cyprus Airways to offer new codeshare flights between major cities in the United States and Larnaca. The codeshare will make buying tickets and traveling between the US and Cyprus simpler for Virgin Atlantic’s and Cyprus Airways’ passengers.”
