Virgin Australia to offer free meals on East Coast flights

It has been over a decade now that domestic airlines in Australia have been providing cheap airfares, and so there has been a cut in the services. However, the Australian carriers on domestic routes will continue to provide cheap flights services and some of the basic amenities like in-flight meals are also staging a comeback.

Virgin Australia has decided to aggressively compete with Qantas Airways and is ready to make a dent in its market share. Virgin Australia has recently announced it will be introducing complimentary snacks and refreshments on its East Coast flights. Effective from February 5, 2014, the complimentary in-flight meals are being introduced on flights between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Virgin Australia wants to position itself closer to Qantas Airways, a full-service carrier. Virgin Australia is mostly seen as a budget airline since it began operations in 2000. Presently, Qantas Airways is offering complimentary meals on all its flights. Virgin Australia having now decided to offer free in-flight meals on flights to select cities like Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney has indicated that it is going to attract customers even more and make efforts to make a significant dent in the market share of Qantas Airways. The airline is already serving complimentary hot meals and drinks to all its customers on flights to Fiji, Phuket and Bali, and also between Perth and Australia’s east coast.
