Volaris lands at FLL with Mexico City and Guadalajara routes

Volaris started operating flights from Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) on December 1, 2014. The airline will fly thrice a week on this route.

Mexican ultra-low cost carrier will also launch twice weekly flights to Guadalajara International Airport (GDL) from FLL starting December 4. Fort Lauderdale is the second destination for the airline in Florida as it operates flights from Orlando to its hub in Mexico City and also recently launched flights to Guadalajara.

FLL-MEX route is the first for the Florida Airport since Aeromexico ceased to operate in September 2007. The route will operate thrice a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The flight will depart from FLL at 1:15 p.m. and arrive in Mexico City at 4:20 p.m. The introductory fares include ticket price, one checked bag and taxes.

Chief Executive Officer of Volaris, Enrique Beltranena commented in a statement that these routes will strengthen cultural and social relations between the two nations. They will also facilitate more tourism activities and generate vitality. He also added that the Fort Lauderdale routes will offer great connectivity options to the Mexican customers; they can visit the beaches of Florida or board cruise trips to other destinations in the U.S.

The usage fee for FLL airport is comparatively less than Miami airport which lures more airlines to choose the airport. Flights from FLL to GDL will depart from Fort Lauderdale at 3:45 p.m. and arrive in Guadalajara at 6:45 p.m. The service will run on Thursdays and Sundays.

Volaris is aggressively expanding in the United States with eight direct routes from Mexico City. Other destinations in the United States served by Volaris include Morelia to Oakland; Guadalajara to Chicago O’Hare, Orlando and Portland and yet to be launched Cancun to Las Vegas starting December 18.

The airline will also launch twice weekly flights from GDL to Reno, Nevada effective December 16.
