WestJet begins flights to London Gatwick airport in spring 2016

Canada's budget carrier WestJet Airlines has announced it will be launching flights to London Gatwick airport starting from spring 2016. The Calgary-based airline is introducing its new service under its international expansion plans.

WestJet Airlines has already started offering a number of flights to Europe with the help of its wide-body aircrafts. The airline is not able to operate its main fleet of Boeing 737 aircrafts to European destinations from Toronto because of the prevailing range limitations. The airline had last year started offering flights to Dublin from St. John's. The airline continuing with its expansion free also introduced flights to Glasgow from Halifax in 2015.

Bob Cummings, WestJet Airlines' Executive Vice-President Commercial, said, “”The airline is proud to initiate its next phase of international expansion keeping in with its strategic plan. This is also perhaps the best phase in the airline's continuing evolution.””

WestJet Airlines is yet to disclose the name of the cities in Canada from where it is going to launch flights to London's Gatwick Airport. The details on airfares is also to be announced and is likely to be revelaed later this summer. The airline may consider offering its nonstop flights to London Gatwick from Toronto, as the route is considered to be advantageous.

WestJet Airlines initially started offering its services as a small low-cost carrier, primarily focusing on the domestic Canadian market. The airline has grown over the years and flourished. The airline expanded its international services and started offering flights to the United States, the Caribbean and sun destinations in Mexico.
