Canada’s second largest carrier WestJet has announced several new and adjusted flights at Tampa International Airport. The airline is all set to launch direct flights from Tampa to Newfoundland’s St. John’s International Airport during next spring. The airline would be offering a weekly service on Tampa-Newfoundland route between April 7 and May 26, 2017.
Media reports said that many new or adjusted routes are being planned out of Tampa. The destinations to be connected with Tampa over next several months include Ohio, Akron-Canton, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Las Vegas and Panama. The adjusted routes are aimed at improving connectivity to above 20 Latin American countries.
Florida’s tourism industry presently considers Canada to be its biggest international market. A recent study said that nearly 3.8 million Canadian tourists visited Florida in 2015. Considering this huge tourists outflow, WestJet is currently offering year-round flights from Toronto to Tampa. The airline also operates seasonal flights from Tampa to Ottawa, Nova Scotia and Halifax.
Panama’s flagship carrier Copa Airlines has also adjusted its flight schedule between Tampa and Panama with new arrival and departure times. The airline would now be offering four times weekly service between the two destinations.
A spokesperson of Copa Airlines said that earlier the flights used to depart from Tampa at 8 am and reached Panama at 10.20 am. The return flight departed from Panama at 6.48 pm and arrived in Tampa at 11.15 pm. However, with the changed timings the flights would now be arriving and departing closer to midday. The flights would arrive in Panama in early evening and in Tampa during early afternoon.
Tampa International Airport also welcomed the launch of a daily service by leading U.S. low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines. The flights between Las Vegas and Tampa were launched by the airline in September this year. Frontier Airlines also announced it would be launching flights to Cincinnati from Tampa starting October 30, 2016. Another U.S. ultra low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has also revealed its plans to launch flights to Akron-Canton and Baltimore from Tampa effective from November 10, 2016.
