WOW Air, which is headquartered in Iceland, recently announced it will be further expanding its services to the United States. The airline is set to launch its flights to Miami next year.
A spokesperson of WOW Air said that the airline will start operating flights services from Miami International Airport to Reykjavik Keflavik effective from April 5, 2017. The new service will also offer seamless connectivity to various destinations in Europe as well.
With its U.S. expansion, Miami will now become the airline’s sixth North American gateway. Apart from Miami, other North American destinations being currently served include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Washington Dulles in the United States, and Montreal and Toronto in Canada. The airline would also be launching flights to New York’s Newark Liberty airport starting this fall, from November 25, 2016.
Skúli Mogensen, Founder and CEO of WOW Air, said, “A strong demand currently exist for low-cost carriers on transatlantic routes. By expanding its services to North America, the airline wants to make Iceland as a major hub for low-fares connectivity to the United States.”
Mogensen further said that he personally knew Miami. It’s a great city and has a lot to offer. He had lived in the city for some years. He also saw keen interest in the people from Miami who wanted to visit Iceland. WOW Air is already serving some key destinations in the United States of America, and Miami is undoubtedly to be a valuable addition to the airline’s expanding North American network.
WOW Air said that it will initially start operating flights to Miami from Iceland thrice weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The airline will later on increase the frequencies on the route in future. The tickets for the new service are already up for sale. The European destinations to be offered connectivity to Miami include Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin, Dublin, Copenhagen, London, Frankfurt and Paris.
