Virgin Atlantic Airways launching more domestic flights in UK

There will now be more Virgin Atlantic Airways flights into the UK domestic market. The airline recently revealed the details about its domestic network expansion.

Virgin Atlantic Airways in a statement confirmed its plans and said that it will be operating multiple daily flights to two Scottish cities from London Heathrow Airport. These cities include Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

The airline had earlier announced it will start operating flights between Manchester and London Heathrow effective from March 31, 2013. This will be the airline’s first domestic feeder service.

The airline said that in the second stage of its domestic expansion it will be adding new flights to Edinburgh and Aberdeen from London Heathrow.
Currently, the parent company of Virgin Atlantic Airways’ rival British Airways International Airlines Group (IAG) has a monopoly on both Edinburgh and Aberdeen routes after its acquisition of BMI.

Media reports indicated that British Airways has decided to reduce frequency on London Heathrow-Aberdeen route by almost one-third, while the frequency on London Heathrow-Edinburgh route is being reduced by one-quarter.
